Description
SPOREX BLUE has been formulated with advanced acrylic copolymer technology and integrated biocides, this emulsion delivers long lasting hygiene protection in a smooth, washable brilliant white or magnolia finish.
The unsurpassed performance is achieved by combining modern paint technology with highly advanced, proven biocides. The antifungal biocide is combined throughout the paint film, which is formulated to impart toughness, elasticity, water resistance and durability to the finish.
Overview
Ideal for walls and ceilings in private and social housing and a wide range of public and commercial buildings. It is fully washable and resistant to the effects of condensation when the coating is fully dried out.
We recommend using AQUASHIELD SOLUTIONS MOULD CHECK as pre-wash mould removal treatment. This treatment will kill all spores and moulds in the surface before re-decorating. It’s important to clean and wash any existing dirt and moulds for a long-lasting mould free finish. Some patches of black mould can leave terrible staining that may bleed through even two or three coats of our mould killing paint. You may have to use a STAIN BLOCKER to stop this happening.
- Gives up to five years protection from the recurrence of Black Mould growth
- Approved under HSE Control of Pesticides 1986 Regulations as a surface biocide treatment against mould growth
- Easy to use and cost effective.
SPOREX BLUE Anti Mould Emulsion will help compliance with Section 82 (Statutory Nuisance), Chapter 43 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, either used alone or part of various strategies to prevent condensation and mould growth in both private and public tenanted accommodation.

Surface Preparation
1. Remove any loose material such as old paint, grease, dirt, mould or defective wallpaper.
After dilution ACS Mould Wash Concentrate can be used for “wetting in” purposes when removing wallpaper.
2. Make good any defects in the surface and rub down to a smooth finish.
3. Wash and clean all surfaces (walls, ceilings, window frames and joinery) using AQUASHIELD SOLUTIONS MOULD CHECK. If necessary, clean badly affected areas a second time. If there is very bad staining use a stain blocker like SPOREX BLACK
4. Allow to dry thoroughly.
Application
1. Apply SPOPREX BLUE using brush or roller.
2. STIR THOROUGHLY BEFORE USE.
3. Apply two coats SPOREX BLUE allowing sufficient drying time between coats.
4. Clean equipment with clean tap water before the paint dries.
5. SPOPREX BLUE must not be covered with any other paint or wallpaper.
Use Over Existing Paint
Suitable for most existing matt emulsions. Exercise care over eggshell, silk and vinyl finishes, which may resist over-coating – lightly key these surfaces with an orbital sander or use a suitable primer where necessary. Take extra care when sanding pre-1960s coatings as they may contain lead.
Storage & Shelf Life
Store in a cool, dry place above 5°C and protect from frost.
Supplied in 2.5L and 5L tins.
Shelf life: up to 12 months in unopened, original containers.
Health & Safety
Wear gloves, an FFP3 (minimum) mask and suitable protective clothing during preparation and application.
Ensure good ventilation while working and during drying.
Avoid contact with skin and eyes; keep out of reach of children.
Not suitable for heated surfaces (e.g. radiators).
For stubborn staining, use an obliterating primer before application.
Interior use only – always consult the MSDS before use.
The product is approved under the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986 for use as directed (HSE No. 6308). In use the product is very similar to conventional high quality emulsion paint; refer to Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before using the product.
Anti Mould Paint

No matter what your needs are for anti mould paint, whether you are looking for an anti mould paint additive, we are confident we have what you are looking for within our extensive range of coatings.
Benefits of Mould Resistant Paint
Though removing and protecting against mould may seem like its own reward, there are other benefits that come alone with the application of a mould resistant paint. These include:
Wall Protection – Mould does not just look ugly, it actually eats away at the surfaces on which it grows. Though it needs moisture to grow, it also needs the organic surface it attaches itself to. Anti mould paint prevents mould deteriorating these structures.
Clean Air – It goes without saying mould is linked to a number of medical conditions, many of them respiratory. Spores in people’s homes can cause sinus infections, sore throats, asthma, coughing, rashes, and more have been linked to mould.
Moisture Resistance – To prevent mould, these products also prevent the source of their growth – moisture. Humidity and steam resistant chemistries protect against mould for up to 5 years or more, depending on the paint. If the mould is occurring because of a problem with damp, you should look for an anti-damp paint and the cause of dampness.
Adding all of these together, these benefits make a building healthier, cleaner and less maintenance.
Frequently Asked Questions About Anti Mould Paint
What is Mould?
Mould is a type of fungi that has over several hundred thousand species. While many of the species are harmless, there are about 15 different species which are considered to be toxic by releasing mycotoxins, which are harmless to both humans and animals.
Does Anti Mould Paint Work?
Measuring the effectiveness of anti mould paint is, in part, a management of your expectations.
First of all, anti-mould paints do work and in many cases, will keep mould firmly at bay. However, if your bathroom is regularly drenched in condensation from heavy showers every day and is not properly ventilated or dried the effectiveness will decline as expected.
It is also important to mention that biocides degrade over time and won’t remain effective forever. In response to this many manufacturers typically provide a 5–6-year guarantee on the effectiveness of the biocides within their products. This means, in order to remain effective, anti-mould paints must be reapplied every 5 years or so.
In short, you can expect mould paints to work, however, they are not a magic cure. And, if you keep your expectations in line with the results you can realistically expect you shouldn’t be disappointed.
What Types of Mould are There?
There are many variations of mould types that are commonly found in homes, all of which are potentially dangerous to humans and animals, and that’s why it’s ever so important to treat and remove mould as soon as it’s discovered.
Most people describe the types of mould by colour, which is black, white, green, grey or brown. But the reality is, the colour rarely tells you how potentially harmful the mould is. There are dangerous and harmless kinds of moulds in each colour group. In some countries mould is categorised into 3 classes of danger based on health risk.
Class A: the most dangerous type of mould, which should not be present in your home as they can pose severe health risks, such as infections and/or creations of toxins. If found, it should be dealt with carefully and removed immediately.
Class B: This type of mould also poses health risks, like allergic reactions and skin irritations. The effects commonly occur over long periods of time.
Class C: This type of mould is not dangerous to human health, however, they can cause damage to your home (structural damage), so still needs to be removed.
Can You Wallpaper an Anti Mould Paint?
This is a common question when it comes to anti-mould paints and whilst you can wallpaper over them it will obviously hinder the efficiency of the paint. You should also ensure the wallpaper you choose has some kind of fungicidal treatment.
It is worth noting that the wallpaper itself will absorb a level of moisture and keep this trapped against the wall for longer than water which deposits on a painted surface. This will increase the chances of mould growing. Generally, it is a good idea not to wallpaper areas of your home that generate a lot of moisture such as your kitchen or bathroom.
How Can I Prevent Mould Coming Back?
To truly deal with a humidity-based mould problem you need to ensure your home does not provide the ideal conditions for its growth. Lack of airflow and high moisture build-up within the home are two of the main causes that need to be mitigated.
A lot of the time we are the cause of high humidity within our homes, this becomes compounded during the winter when the moisture we create cooking, bathing, and even breathing becomes trapped within our homes. This condenses to leave moisture on our walls, ceilings and windows. Creating the ideal breeding conditions for bacteria and mould.
Fortunately, the remedies for this are quite easy and simply opening the bathroom window after showering, using the extractor fan in your kitchen or buying a dehumidifier will help remove the trapped moisture, improve airflow and help inhibit mould growth.
